The Sadducees stressed the importance of the temple and priests. There was also the Essenes, the Zelots, and the Herodians. Jewish leaders were called rabbis. Rebellion broke out against the Romans in 70 C.E. Troops laid waste to the city and destroyed the temple. Jerusalem was de clared of limits to Jews. The name of God is Yahweh. In Latin he is called Jehovah. The Jews put much importance to Gods name. For a period of time it was illegal to speak gods name.
